During the first season of Just FYI Pod: Ideas, my cohost Clark Elliston and I will countdown our ten favorite works of theology.
On today’s episode, Clark will discuss Helmut Thielicke’s A Little Exercise for Young Theologians (Kleines Exerzitium für Theologen, 1962), while I will examine Jacques Ellul’s Anarchy and Christianity (Anarchie et Christianisme, 1988). In terms of both style and content, these are very different works, but they share a key assumption—that theological beliefs, ideas, and narratives are meant to “cash out” in transformative activity in the world.
As ever, please consider liking, rating, reviewing, and sharing!
Interesting discussion. I believe Karl Barth wrote: “There can only be small theologians.” There can be great doctors or lawyers, but there are no great theologians.
