As I mentioned on a recent post, this Substack is now going to host what amounts to two podcasts:
Just FYI Pod: Culture, with Amy Welborn. Amy and I started this endeavor in September 2023, and I daresay we’ve actually enjoyed it! At present, we’re continuing to countdown “Our 20 Most Spiritually Significant Films of All Time,” but we’ll eventually take on other topics in the realm of popular culture (literature, “prestige TV,” etc.).
Just FYI Pod: Ideas, with Clark Elliston. Clark is an academic colleague and old friend from our salad days at Oxford, whom I have finally wrangled into doing a podcast. Our main task with this “pod” is to explore various issues in theology, philosophy, and higher ed.
Please note that both podcasts will be released on the same Just FYI Pod “channel” on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Overcast, etc. So there is no need to subscribe elsewhere or to hunt down a new title. Seasons and episodes (and thus subject matter) will be differentiated by the terms “Culture” and “Ideas” respectively. Bottom line: don’t touch that dial!
Now, as for today’s episode, which is linked below as always: it will essentially serve as an introduction to Just FYI Pod: Ideas. Clark and I will discuss life at Oxford “back in the day” (including some tall tales from the basketball court!), the Protestant-Catholic tension in our friendship, and why a podcast on “academic stuff” may actually matter. Yet, most importantly, we will preview our upcoming podcast series—again, hosted here—which we have pithily entitled “Our Ten Favorite Theological Works.”
So, give Just FYI Pod: Ideas a listen, and, if you haven’t already, add Just FYI Pod: Culture into your rotation as well. Indeed, Amy and I will be back next week with the #8 film on our lists of spiritually significant films—and there are even rumors of a season-ending party (and book signing) at a local brewpub. How ya like them apples!
