SEASON 2, EPISODE 8: "2024: A Cultural Retrospective"

In this last episode before we return to our series "Ten Novels That Changed Our Lives," my cohost Amy Welborn and I sit down to recap the year 2024, particularly in the arena of culture. After a brief debate about the political "theme" of the year, we turn to our main topic: our favorite movies, TV series, books, and music of 2024. Talking points include, but are hardly limited to (as pictured above): Tuareg guitarist Mdou Moctar, Jesse Eisenberg’s new film A Real Pain, the third season of The Bear, James Mangold’s new Bob Dylan “biopic” A Complete Unknown, Minnesota-based novelist Julie Schumacher, the much-debated fourth season of True Detective, the much-celebrated historical epic TV series Shōgun, North Carolina singer-songwriter MJ Lenderman’s excellent fourth album Manning Fireworks, and Robert Eggers’ latest gothic horror film Nosferatu.
